19th of July 2009 : last training before the WC

Today we had our last training before we travel to the Worldchampionship. We did not have any luck again with the weather. There were many rain showers and the wind was blowing pretty hard ( up to 60 Km/hour). We decided not to go out and practice.
So what can you then??? We start to checking the winches and batteries.
The weather, a lot of rain !!! Measuring the winches.
And then of course..... adjusting!! and............... adjusting!!

After testing the winches we had a small meeting about how to act on the WC.

28th of June 2009 : training with the whole team

Today we train with the whole team. We made some pictures with our new cloth on. It was very hot, 27 degrees Celsius and not to much wind. The condition were very tricky. On moment good air, next start bad air.

Our teammanager is explaning to the only spectator what F3b is. Frans is leaping over ditches.  Good for his condition.

The speedtimes were from good to poor. Best speedtime was 14.12 sec, one of the worst 20 sec (without an extra turn).
We learn again a few things.
More pictures of the training can be found here.

1st of June 2009 : the next training

During very nice weather conditions we had our next training. The temperature was about 23° Celsius. The wind was pretty strong and thermals were quick moving by. This time we only did some speedruns.

Eric concentrated at base A during speed

Because of the wind the altitudes of the lauches were pretty goods. Add some thermals to it  and you get nice speedtimes. Some times the average of a slot is 14 seconds.

We broke a few lines. The ground remembers me of the WC in South Africa ( Sorry Michelle ;-)  )

The team is  improving. The average of the speedtimes of the pilots is decreasing. We still need to practice but there is some hope.

The weather was changing at the end. We had to stop because of the rain.

More pictures of the training can be found here.

10th of May 2009 : Small training
Today we had a small  training. The weather conditions were bad. Just small thermals and the wind was coming from all directions. Because of the size of the field, we had to setup the winches to 1 direction and put the measuring devices 90 degrees on winch lines.

the 3 pilots : Frans Vreugdenhil, Jeroen Smits and Frits Donker Duyvis.

Even with no wind we were able to break a lot of lines and it costs us much time to repair it. The speedtimes were not so fast as we hoped. We managed to have consistantly 17 sec. We had thick air and no thermals. So what can you do? We try to train the youngsters ;-)

Some pictures of the training can be found here.

27th of April 2009 : Eurotour Kirchheim
As preparation for the WC we took part at a 3 day competition. The 3 pilots and 1 helper ( Ben Ros) went to Kirchheim for the Eurotour. There were more than 100 competitors!.
It was pretty cold in Kirchheim . There was a lot of cross wind. We had even ice on our tents.
The circumstances during the whole contest were very variable. In the morning 10 minutes duration was very difficult and a lot of pilots lost points. Also for speed there were big variations ( speedtimes from 14- 21 seconds)

A launch of the Fletcher from Frits Donker Duyvis.

During the contest a new worldrecord was flown. Tobi Knoblach flew under extreme weather conditions 36 laps!
(The old worldrecord, 35 laps, was flown by Espen Torp, during the WC in South-Africa 1999)

You do not get many points when you fly 21 laps............

A small fact. What do you do when you lost your model in a forest?
Arrange a helicopter to find your model and a rock-climber to get it out of the trees!
De organisation was good. The contestmanagers  Uli Trautwein and Michael Seyfang did a perfect job.

The result of the competition :
1) Andreas Herrig, GER
2) Peter Hubbertz, GER
3) Martin Herrig, GER

De results of the team :
19) Jeroen Smits
31) Frits Donker Duyvis
42) Frans Vreugdenhil

As team we ended 9th of 20 teams
Conclusion : we need still a lot of practice!!!

The best average speedtime was made by Martin Herrig,  15.31 sec
The complete result of the competition can be found here.
A lot of pictures can be found here ( Dutch orientated)

4th of April 2009: second training.
Today we had our second training for the WC. Only Ben Ros was not available because he had to work. The whether forecast was promissing but were completly wrong. It was a cold, grey day with some wind of 3 bft. We start with some distance practice and after that we switched over to speedtraining.
Some pictures of the training can be found here.

31th of March 2009 : Extra  helper for the dutch team.
The dutch team  proudly present a extra helper for the WC 2009. Ben Ros has given his support to team.
Ben is an experienced guy. He was pilot and helper during a lot of EC and WC's.

13th of March 2009 : first training
Today we had our first training with the WC team. The winches were tested and and we got the planes out of there winter sleep.
During the winter we made some new winch frames.
The wetter was sunny and there was a little wind, temperature was about 12 degrees celsius. We made some distance and duration  flights. We setup the planes so for the next training so we can start direct with speed flying.

Some pictures of the training can be found here.
